Is this version of office totally online? You can't download a local copy at all?

Office 2013 is fully downloadable. It is not an online application. It also cannot be purchased on CD. You must download it (if you're in the US).

Not at all, the installer can be downloaded and backed up for later reinstall, and no internet connection is required to use it.

Not sure these two were clear enough. There are two versions actually.
A subscription based one for $99 per year that you can use on 5 devices that is based "in the cloud".
Or you can purchase a copy "the old way" (meaning not cloud based and no internet connection needed) for a one time fee of $219 for use on one computer.

Amazon.com: Microsoft Office Home and Business 2013* (1PC/1User) [Download]: Software

I think you're mixing up office 2013 with another product called office 365. Office 2013 does not offer a subscription pricing model to my knowledge.

I finally found where it was being installed in the directory. Could find the application exe files. Haven't used Windows 8 much at all. Thanks everyone.

Totally correct. Office 365 is Office 2013 'in the cloud' so I always think of it as 2013.
