My mom is in need for a new desktop computer. She only uses it for light internet use, email and pictures.. Windows 7 is a must.

Looked at. Dell outlet, but their lowest was like $500+.

Budget of around $400. Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't have a particular recommendation for a brand or model... but go to Walmart. I believe they sell Dell's, too.

That's a tough budget for a viable (for the next 3-5 years) desktop plus monitor.

Here's one that could work: The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

When checking out, apply code: 6TG3Z?43?3K?V1 for an additional $130 off and the price comes to $399.
You'll need to add a monitor ($80-$110 from Dell) so the whole thing can be had for under $500 before taxes.
It's $30 more if you want Windows 7 -- I say just leave it on Windows 8.

You have more options at the $400 price point if you want to get a laptop.

Default Consider used

Action Computers, Inc. - Refurbished Desktops & Workstations with a one year warranty! is in Denver so not specifically useful to you.
Find a similar business near your Mom's place.
Buy the best monitor you can afford.

I'd go with HP myself. I have had many different brands of computers (desk tops and lap tops) and HP has always been reliable and the best. You couldn't pay me to buy a Dell.

I bought a really nice ASUS (brand new) a while back with Windows 7 for about 50% off retail. $399. It runs rings around my older Dell Vista machine. This one is a rocket ship. And it wasn't loaded up with a lot of "crapware" either.

Check out NewEgg. That's where I found mine.

Lenova is a solid brand that does appear to be about the best deal out there now for a Windows 7 machine. And NewEgg is a first rate company.
