I can't open any email attachents, pdf's my mom sent me. Compaq Vista laptop. Uninstalled Reader 9.5 and now neither version will install. I get to the run, it loads, run again, the dialog box goes away and the command prompt to allow it to install never happens. Anyone?
Then I removed AVG, then I tried installing using Chrome, everytime the thing tried to load it failed due to virus scan, even tho I removed AVG.
Then when I tried to reinstall AVG, again I got to run and run and the comm and box to allow never came up.
I am doing system restore, but clearly it's a download problem and not Adobe.
When I get that kind of problem with downloads there is usually a bar that opens at the top of the window under the toolbars that has an "Allow" button at the right. The browser settings are such that I either have to allow the request page to load or the download to run.
Sometimes I have to futz back and forth between the request page and the download page because the whole thing ends up in la la land.
Pain in the rear.

Back to factory default? If so, the problem is your ISP, a setting in the router (if you have one) or a setting in the browser. Out of the box Windows should download files without a problem.
it's interesting because now I tried to install the AVG to a flash drive on two different machines and the download crashes and the page on Cnet goes to whoops you broke the internet. On BOTH machines. Other machine old XP tower.
First, don't download from cnet. Lots of garbage floating abound in their downloads. I use FileHippo.com - Download Free Software for what they have. They are somewhat restrictive about what they have on their site - no junk - just good programs, and downloads are clean. The only warning is to wait for the gray dialog box to open. People get antsy and start clicking things and then complain when they something they didn't want. Patience is the rule.
Second - it sounds like your problem is cnet not the computer - not a guarantee, but I recommend trying to download from a different site as a test.
I finally got it onto the flash drive and installed it on my laptop.
Now, after MS update, Security Center will not start. Oh, the joy........
