I've got a new Windows 8 laptop. No issues last nite connecting to Internet sites with either IE or Bing. Tonite I cannot connect to the Internet with either. There have been no intentional changes, new installs or uninstalls, etc. Other apps - weather, etc - also cannot connect.

I show a strong connection to my router and the laptop shows an assigned IP address. I have disconnected and reconnected to router, and have also rebooted laptop, router and modem. I have excellent Internet connection from iPad and my old laptop on the same WiFi connection.

I can email from the new laptop with no issues, and I can skype with the other laptop.

I've tried everything I know, with no success. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Got it. For some reason, "use proxy server" was checked under LAN. Have no clue what that means or why it was checked. Regardless, once I unchecked it, life was once again good.

You might want to run a malware scan and uninstall/disable any unnecessary toolbars. That setting got changed somehow. What was the proxy server address?

Thanks. I had previously run malware bytes a couple times prior to the problem and wondered if that had caused a problem, the proxy address was 127.0.0.1 to port 8080.
