I don't get it. the fan works but every time when im in a game it shuts down. Is it because its a laptop and the fan faces the desk?

If this is a new problem you likely have dust buildup on the heatsinks inside the laptop, some are easy to clean, some are not. I do not recommend (some will) that you just blow canned air into the vent holes, if there's a heavy buildup you'll just blow it in and jam the fan.

Check and clean the vents and google to see whether this is an inherent problem to your make/model. You can also try using a chillpad to see if it will help.

Games are notorious for generating a lot of heat. I have a friend who’s a hardcore gamer and he as a special pad with an extra fan that he uses while gaming. I’d also look at the battery. Sometime gaming causes the battery to get so hot that it starts to expand.

We had this problem with an HP and resolved it by simply putting a couple of 1/2" high wooden blocks under it at the back to get better air circulation. If you use it on your lap, you may have to get a cooling pad or other similar device.

Brand and designation of laptop and what game are you running, please.

also

Amazon.com: Notebook Cooler, Silver, ZM-NC2000: Electronics

I used this in Iraq, with the fans on. Worked great. I still use it now, without the fans. It's a giant aluminum heat sink. I'm using it right now. Actually, I use it every time I use my own personal laptop or my work one, because it keeps everything nice and cool.
