As a traditional user I sure welcome this. When this comes out I won't have to shop around for a pc running Windows 7. I'm also assuming that the Start menu hasn't changed..... not familiar with Windows 8.

While much of the recent chatter surrounding Microsoft Corp. may be centered around the successor to Chief Executive Steve Ballmer, another change may be in the works for software giant’s Windows 8.1 operating system to cater to core users.
Recently, reports indicate Microsoft MSFT is planning to update Windows 8.1 by having the system boot to a desktop option by default, something traditional desktop users have been wanting.
They're speculating it's happening sometime next month.

New rumors are beginning to emerge regarding the next update for the Windows 8 platform. They stem from a leaked build of Windows 8.1 Update 1, and show that Microsoft really has listened to feedback. Microsoft is expected to reveal Windows 8.1 Release 1 sometime in March before the BUILD conference a month later.
XP sales stayed robust when Vista was out. 7 was much more successful than Vista. If we go by MS pattern of making a good OS followed by a sucky OS, then Windows 9 should be good.
I really hope they make an adjustment. I have used windows 8 a few times and still do not like it. I am still running 7, and will continue to do so until they come out with an OS that is for an actual desktop/laptop not a tablet. I do not want a tablet, if I did I would buy a tablet, I have a laptop, and want an OS to function as so.
