I'm thinking of getting one of those All-in-One computers where the entire computer and monitor are built into one unit.

What I'm interested in knowing is, do these computers typically have VGA inputs where you can use it as a monitor from another computer? I have a work laptop that I currently connect to a separate monitor, so I want to know if I would be able to connect it to the all-in-one and use that as "monitor only" some of the time. I don't have room for the all-in-one plus a separate monitor.

VGA input? Probably not.
I know some of the Samsung AIO's have HDMI in/out so you can probably use that.

on iMacs, you can use various adapters to connect an external VGA/SVGA monitors to the firewire port or display port (on older iMacs)

Not typical.
Research whatever you think about buying. Thoroughly.

I'm certain most have an HDMI input for an external monitor. VGA will be obsolete soon.

Dell AIO units typically have HDMI output so in case something is wrong or you want additional screening capability you can connect another display.
But that will not work for you, what you need is VGA/DVI/HDMI input which, I imagine, would not be common.

That would be an output, not an input.
