Wife just replaced empty black cartridge but it is not working. The color cartridges are working but the black one is coming up blank. I tried a "test print" but nothing came out on that. It is HP printer #5525
Cartridge is # 564 We tried another cartridge ( they came in a 2 pack) and it was the same no print.
The fluid levels show it is full on the Utilities window. Could these be defective cartridges? We DID remove the tape on the cartridge.

Stumped????

If you are using a generic cartridge the printers can sometimes not recognize the new one that is full of ink and give you an "empty or no cartridge" message. That is a remote possibility.
Also, the age of the cartridge can be a factor. The copper contacts could be corroded, etc.
We've used ink cartridges off Ebay that had an expiration date years ago. Some work great. If too old they may not work. Especially the color ones that have sponges inside that can dry up over time. The black are usually a compartment full of ink.

If the printer and ink are fairly new then forget the above. The above would be for outdated cartridges, and non HP generic ink.

Thanks to all that have answered. Yes, we have only used HP cartridges and we even went out this afternoon and bought another one just to make sure the others were not defective. The orange clipe and the tape was removed as well. (wive used to replace these all the time at her school). We keep getting that message that the cart. is either low on ink or is defective. Thanks again.
