Does anyone ever use this? I've been using computers since 1990 and have yet to find any practical use for scroll lock. Reading its description from Wikipedia, I thought I could have scroll lock active and then hit the down arrow key to slowly but automatically scroll down a webpage or some document but I have yet to incorporate it in my computing use..

I have always wondered what it was for also!!!

I have accidently hit it in the past but I havent ever used it!! (I dont see what its for,IF YOU DONT WANNA SCROLL DOWN,DONT MIDDLE CLICK AND MOVE AROUND THE PAGE!!)

I just tested SCROLL LOCK.. I can still scroll even when i have it on,seems totally useless!!

Scroll Lock is for text editors. It also works in Excel. It allows you to scroll a window without having to use the mouse and without moving your cursor. Most good text editors like vi and emacs don't make use of Scroll Lock while some lower end text editors like Notepad ++ and Sublime Text make use of it (you need to configure it in sublime text).

I just bought a new computer this month and there is no Scroll Lock button on the keyboard. Maybe it's being phased out.

In Excel: turn it on. Now when using the arrow keys, your spreadsheet will move instead of the selected cell. That's about the extent of its usefullness for most people.

Scroll lock saved a lot of my fustration when editing charts on Excel. It is not a lifesaver while in a gaming tournament.
