I never had Windows XP. I actually missed that one I was on Linux but I did purchase Vista when it came out. I still have a Vista machine I turn on occasionally, but my primary machine is an Android 22 inch, so I guess I'm back on Linux/Unix again. I am one of those select people that actually likes Vista, never had any security issues with it I only run Security Essentials, no other Antivirus, and it runs clean.

If I had Windows XP I would have made the move to Windows 7 with everyone else, to be honest. There is no economic incentive to continue to run XP. A cheap tablet is as powerful as Windows XP; a good tablet is more powerful than Windows XP, technically the average smartphone has surpassed Windows XP.

What is Windows XP? 48 MB to 512 MB of RAM, maybe 1 GB or more on the high end for power users that have upgraded their hardware. 32 bit processing, memory is probably quite slow unless you have upgraded it. Everything smartphones and tablets have achieved.

I look at it as, am I going to continue to run $50 hardware or am I going to move into the current decade and run modern technology? I would not upgrade Windows XP for the sake of the software. Software can always be patched and worked around, it is not a deal breaker and there are always cheap alternatives. I would do it for the hardware.

Microsoft has already ran fire sale specials on Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Anyone still running Windows XP, really likes the OS and prefer uses it over anything else. So I doubt that the lack of security upgrades or holes in the OS is going to deter anyone because most XP users, 14 years later, know how to deal with such inconveniences.

An implementation of Unix. Unix is also the framework for Mac's OS/X.

Windows is also partially based off of C and C++, which were used to create Unix.

It isn't what you use, but the implementation of what you use. Windows is just a different implementation of older computer technologies. Even with Linux, it is not the fact that you use Linux that differentiates you from Windows or Mac users but how you are using it. But just the fact of using Linux, nothing really special about that, IMHO.

Re: Goofy,I believe that you are totally wrong about the specs for a WIN XP computer, since I am able to play every CD/DVD-ROM PC game that I ever wanted to,including Sims 2!

No way would a 'tablet' run my games, plus I have never even considered playing games on a hand-held tiny screen!

Tablet has the same amount of RAM. Memory is slower in tablets, and the graphics are not as powerful, on the low end, but that is changing.

On the other hand I can purchase a Win XP machine second hand for $100 in a thrift store.

And what tablets are you using? iPad plays a lot of games, well, as does the higher end tablets, plus the screen is the control. Hook that tablet up to a larger screen using the HDMI output and you're already there. Or get a tabletop tablet, like my 22 inch. It does well, only 1 GB of RAM and the processor is slow but it does what I need it to do.

What 'tablet' has 2GB of RAM and 250 GB HD, like my XP laptop? Never used a tablet and have no desire to,when I can get a PC cheaper and have more powerful graphics!

My granddaughter has an iPad and no way could it play my games! Nor would it be possible to play a HIDDEN OBJECT game on a ridiculous 8" screen, and I once used a 22" monitor and hated it,might have been the monitor but I prefer 15-17".

Put it this way, if you bought your Win XP when it was the only option, 2001 to 2006, chances are it is not that powerful. I do realize a lot of users have upgraded their hardware and are pushing the limitations of how much memory that OS can address, and some are running 64-bit, which no mobile can touch other than the latest iPhone, but the majority of XP users are running ancient hardware that simply cannot compare to what is in the marketplace today.

Smarphones have 2GB. The latest Samsung has 2GB and iPhone 5 has 1GB!

You obviously have not seen any of the Windows tablets, those have even more than 2 GB of RAM>
