I have a circa 2007 desktop running Windows XP. Up until the other night no issues. I plugged my iPhone into the CPU before bed as usual. The next morning the XP welcome screen was on, I plugged in my password and it took forever to come on. I restarted it and the same thing happened. Once it finally restarted my wallpaper picture was missing. It takes forever to start up, surfing the web is very slow. I have deleted browsing history, cleared the cache and cookies and very little difference.

I ran my Mcafee anti virus and it found nothing.

Can anyone suggest a solution? I'd really appreciate it. I know all about Microsoft no longer supporting XP in April and will be buying a Mac(most likely). I have 1000's of pics on the computer and want to insure they are safe. I dont want to spend any money taking the computer repair person when I am about to replace it in about a month. Any suggestions would be appreciated! TIA

Could be any number of things, corrupt file system or OS, hard drive going bad, etc.

And if these are your only copy of said pics, they are not even close to safe.

Get a USB portable hard drive and copy all your pictures and other irreplaceable data to it NOW! Then work on your PC with the USB drive removed. You might try a system restore.
