I have some old three and a half inch floppy drives that I have been keeping around and wonder if I can throw them out? Does anyone out there still use floppy drives?

Some retro people may have an interest but you won't get more than a few bucks for one.

Throw them out. I sincerely doubt he was asking about the possibly of getting money for them Mr_Geek. A few bucks? Who is paying money for floppy disks I'd love to know. They aren't worth a penny. 50 of them aren't worthy a penny.

I'm an IT guy and was just wondering if they might still have some use. Selling them on Ebay seems pointless for just a dollar or two. I may reconnect one, one last time to see if there is any useful data, but the only disks I have are dos 6.22 and windows 3.1. I can't even imagine why I would use windows 3.1 in a virtual machine. I think they are going out.

Floppy drives (not disks) go for a few bucks on eBay.

Those might be of value to someone who needs to do regression testing. You might try advertising them and see whether you get any interest, before you just toss them.

I keep an external 3.5 drive and an external Zip drive for those "just in case" situations (have needed the 3.5 drive twice in the last year because a client had some txt files they never re-copied to newer media).

I have some 3.5 floppies and an external drive. I know that there are some old .txt files on them. But I have used them in at least 5 years. SD cards are just easier to use in cameras, computers and other devices.

They also hold far more data.

Didn't we all have shoeboxes full of multi-colored floppies, all carefully labeled & numbered? I thought that stuff would forever be relevant.
