Is it just me or is windows 8 horrible (laptop, desktop, harddrive)

Bought a new PC for my nephew. It was my first dealing with win 8. Took me like 20 minutes to figure out how to get to my desktop. Charms? Bleh. There isnt even a way to use the old windows 7 format in win 8 without downloading 3rd party software(that i know about)
Formatted harddrive since it had a whole lot of bloatware anyways and installed win 7
But, not just you.
About a zillion other people have this same complaint.
You are not just worthy of the munificence of the great wizards at Microsoft.
I "updated" to 8.1, and it still sucks. Just sucks slightly differently. It's specifically designed to make it easier to do a lot of things that I don't want to do, at the expense of making the things I do want to do harder to do by putting more layers and apps in between me and those things. It's faster, yes, and perhaps more stable, but not enough to make it worth the irritation it causes. Windows 7 and Vista worked fine for me; Win8 doesn't add anything of value to my computer experience.
So no, it's not "you." It's you and a hell of a lot of other people. I get sick and tired of all the people who, every time this discussion comes up, jump in with "well, I like it and it works fine for me, so there must be something wrong with you." If you don't like something, you simply don't like it, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I never cared for Windows 8's touch-screen UI on a desktop or a laptop computer. It might be okay on a smart phone but not a regular computer.
I did buy a new computer a couple of months ago, with Windows 8.1 and it has the "Desktop" option, which works fine. It also boots up faster than my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop, with an i7 processor, and 32 GB of memory. The 8.1 computer has 12 GB of RAM, and an i5 processor.
For those who mentioned "Bloatware", I had those on the Windows 8.1 computer but I uninstalled them.
There are a couple of "features" Microsoft took away from Windows 8, which I wasn't too happy with, one of them was the ability to create a system image/back-up. I'm not sure why they did that, but I hope they bring it back in a future update.
but hang in there, the next update looks to have a more traditional start menu, and other added features to make it easier to use with a mouse and keyboard.
