and it was fine for awhile, then it decided I should upgrade to their mobile security program. I don't have an android or whatever else they mentioned, so Avast will not start. I uninstalled it and now wonder what to get. I suppose return to AVG? But, maybe there is another free program.... ?

Did you download the uninstaller for avast, or just use the add/delete function of your computer? It doesn't go away easily.

I meant whatever app is used to add/delete programs in your OS. When I did it, I was finding pieces of avast for months whenever I used ccleaner. Found out that there is an app needed to completely remove avast.

Just buy Malwarebytes, use Microsoft Security Essentials (free), and you're well protected imo.

Whatever it was didn't apply to me, so unless I install Avast again and it comes up again, I won't know because I don't recall...
