Don't all the other browsers use more battery than Safari?

This is what I've heard is the case, at least with Safari 7 (came with OS X Mavericks).

I would think that the browsing habits of the user (i.e. Flash) have the most to do with battery life.

One can determine their battery usage using Mavericks tools:

You can set Safari to show the following side bars: bookmarks, reading, favorites bar (shows on the top), tab bar, and status bar. All of these are found in the "View" menu.

Firefox. Can't stand Safari (I also can't stand I.E. on my work PC) and was always satisfied with Firefox so never felt the need to try Chrome.

Safari... Haven't had a reason to try anything else.

I used to use Firefox back in the Windows days but haven't tried it yet on my MBA.
