I just received an old work computer from someone, and I completed a factory reset to its original state. I plugged a USB wifi antenna into the USB port, and the computer wants to connect to the internet to install it. I can't connect to the internet because I need the antenna installed to connect. I don't have an installation CD for the antenna or anything. My question is... How can I install my Gigaware USB antenna so I can search for Wireless networks and connect to my home wifi? If I click on the connections icon at the bottom right of the desktop, it doesn't allow me to search for available networks. If I buy a new, cheap wifi antenna on Amazon, will it come with the software needed to install it without connecting to the internet? I'm thinking that's my best option.
Which will be at MediaTek now "MediaTek Wireless Utilities can be installed on computers running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7."
If that's not the correct one, then find out what chipset your USB wifi adapter is running.
...or you could go to a local internet cafe near you(Fedex kinkos) and download the driver for the usb device. Look for the model number on your usb. Install it and that should get you you going.
I hope this helps.
