Hi. I want a webcam for the purpose of posting myself talk on youtube. I bough a c160 Logitech from walmart lastnight and I don't like it, it was cheap, 20 I thought being 2011 the most basic webcam would do just fine but the sound is very weak and not loud enough, I have to yell to hear myself posted on youtube, I don't know if I did something wrong or what but the picture quality is bad too.

So I have a budget of 50 dollars. I want a webcam that is simple, but good picture quality and sound.. I don't care about other features such as backgrounds. Should I buy a mic as well? I don't think the one that comes with the webcam is worth a damn. This is what I bough, I plan to return it if I can:

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910 is I think undisputedly the best webcam that you can buy, and really not very expensive for what you get. It is over $50, but not by very much, if you look hard enough.

I don't have much experience with web cams, lots with regular.

Check the sound recording levels. Where depends on how the sound is recorded? If it's plugged into the mic jack you'll find these in the windows control panel or your soundcard's configuration.

My understanding is these cams will step down the bitrate for broadcast if you have poor connection.

Lastly you can record or even broadcast live video from just about camcorder which is going to blow away the quality of any webcam. I'd just go buy mini-DV cam from craigslist especially if you don't need the webcam feature, you only need a firewire port

You can get a PCI firewire card for about $10 if you don't have firewire.
