I have a HP Pavilion, using Win 8, Firefox, and Chrome.

I have noticed that every time that I've muted the sound on my laptop, and turn it back on when needed, the sound stops working all together. I first noticed this with Youtube videos. The video there plays for a few seconds, then stops, with an error message saying "An error occurred, please try again later." While thinking it was just Youtube, I tested this out with Soundcloud and videos from other various sites (just to name a few) such as CNN, Vimeo, and Facebook. The result was the sound wasn't working on those either.

I am lost as to what steps I should take in order to fix this problem, and where the source of the problem could be. If anyone can help me out, that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Does the sound stop working system wide (normal Windows/ application sounds) or just when streaming video? If so go to HP's support site and download/install the latest audio driver. HP Drivers and Downloads for Printers, Scanners and More | HP ® Support

Downgrade to Windows 7 and see if that solves all your problems.

Yeah, that's much easier than trying a new driver
