I just bought an Olympus VN-7100 digital recorder. It does not have a USB jack, but it does have a female earphone jack. Is there a way (or software) to convert analog sound into a sound file?

I am thinking I would plug a patchcord (male on both ends) into the earphone jack on the digital recorder, and put the other end into the input jack on my computer. How would I be able to convert these into digital sound files, playable by RealPlayer and/or Windows Media?

You could use audacity to record from the mic jack, then output as mp3 or whatever.

You are not transferring "files", but the actual sound (analog), just like from a cassette tape player or an actual microphone.
