I don't know what could have happened, but I've been unable to download anything and I don't know how long it's been that way, but apparently over a month. Didn't think too much about it at first as what I tried to download wasn't important, but that has changed. Now, I really need to download a program, but can't. IE seems to not want it to happen. I have IE 11 and Windows 7. What could be the reason? I have Malwarebytes Pro and it says I have no problem files.

I've restored the system back to Oct 31, but it didn't help. Can't get it to give me an earlier date.

A message appears that IE has closed my internet connections and will not allow the download. A window says it is searching for a solution, but doesn't find one.

I even changed my security settings to put my machine at risk and nothing changed.

Install a different browser (like Opera) and see if you get the same result. If not, then I would un and then reinstall IE.

IE will not allow the download of Opera. If I uninstall IE without having another browser what will happen?

Uninstall the most recent update via control panel, and then run windows update to reinstall it.

Before you do that though I would reset IE, tools > internet options > advanced tab, click "restore advanced settings" and then "reset" - uncheck delete personal settings if it's checked. If that doesn't work, do it again but check the delete personal settings box.

I've gone to the advanced tab and clicked restore advanced settings... unchecked delete personal settings. I hit "reset" and the warning came up about not doing it unless IE is totally unusable... which I suppose that's true, but I wanted to check with you before I went ahead and did it. So I canceled it.

Control Panel only shows Internet Explorer 11. Doesn't show update from earlier version.

Right now, I have to stop and will start again tomorrow. I appreciate your help.

The first thing I do at work is reset IE before I do any other troubleshooting. Not worth the time to do anything else first IMO.

When I don't know what I'm doing, it's my experience to be cautious and avoid certain consequences, if possible.
