saw a 486 computer at a local resale shop-no price.it has a large and small floppy drive and a cd drive.assuming it wasnt upgraded, what OS do you think it has,how big of a hard drive ? im guessing no more than a gig or 2.if its no more than $10 id like to buy it just for fun, I havent used a windows 3.1 or 95 in many years.

An original, non-upgraded, 486 would have been DOS - with maybe an early Windows version added. And yes, it would be fun to tinker with. Had a few machines like that back in the day.
Don't buy it. For any amount of money. There will be nothing "fun" about owning it - it will be cute for a half hour after you bring it home, and then it will just be in the way.

took another look at it today, it has no connection for a mouse so it must be DOS and it had 260M of hard drive!! I started with DOS along time ago so i figure for a few bucks it would be a fun nostalgia trip--assuming the thing even works.
No. The early mouse connections were through the serial port at the back, and as a matter of fact I am just now today in the process of loading a replacement for a customer workstation computer that is like this and has 95 running on it. It is STILL in service and could continue to be, but using the keyboard commands are too much for the customer.
An old 486 is a reasonable platform for a voice fax soundcard and advanced answering and whitelist phone system, a security webcam, data logging platform, and a few other things.
