Looking around this weekend I see that Windows 8 is the new version of Microsoft. XP has taken a hike apparently. What do you all think about the new Windows 8~? Is it better than XP or any comparison~?

Windows XP is twelve years old. Windows 8 is the third version of Windows since XP. Where have you been?
Windows Vista had many problems, but ultimately it was probably an improvement over XP, mostly because of the user interface.
Windows 7 is a vastly better version of Vista.
Windows 8 is touch optimized operating system that brings the "tiles" interface model found in Windows phones into the tablet and PC world. Very interesting to use with a touch screen. Not quite so usable on a non-touch screen.

Windows phone interface was a disaster. As evidence by their trailing android, apple and rim.
Putting it on the desktop was ridiculous.
But that's Microsoft for you. More and more out of touch. It's a shame...

Windows Phone has been on the market for the least amount of time compared to those other platforms. It's too early to tell whether it will be a disaster. Also, Windows Phone has surpassed RIM.
Microsoft has one of the most successful consumer-oriented products on the market. They're certainly not out of touch.

Just...
But no way are Windows Phones ever catching up. Even WP users dislike the newer interface.

The OLD Microsoft did.
It's not "success." It's "everyone is locked in and they'll deal with it."
About their only edge these days is the fact the gaming companies are locked into MS...
If that ever changes MS is done...
Nothing they've done recently is ground breaking. They follow in everything. The phones, gaming and now thus silly design trying to compete with Apple and Android.
Tablets failed under MS. They failed until iPad that is. They just are not innovative in the consumer world.

You're just speculating that it won't. You never really know.

What are you talking about? No one was locked into Microsoft and no one is today. When they introduced the Xbox (and Xbox 360) to the market there already were competent leaders. Microsoft was able to take market-share. People are not locked into the XBOX 360. Nothing is keeping people from switching to Sony or Nintendo gaming options other than the fact that the 360 is the leader in the market in terms of hardware and games.
If you don't think the Xbox gaming systems are success then you don't know what success is.
Yes, Microsoft is not a major market leader in mobile devices today. But only time will tell.

Oh... Pardon me. I'm not talking consoles.
I meant PC gaming...
