I won't bother to post in this forum anymore. Thanks.
Sorry, guy, but your 'minor error' was followed up with the 'cure' of uninstalling Norton, which to some less savvy, would have made it less 'minor'.
Perhaps you just need to be more careful when being helpful?

Rainroosty suggested running the computer on a different electrical outlet, and that's what I did. I plugged the surge protector into an extension cord, and plugged it into the outlet behind the couch. Since I did that, I've had no problems at all. I'm going to contact the property manager about having an electrician come out and correct the problem
It's really nice to have a place to post problems and get suggestions about solving them.

I would have gone out and bought a new computer, and probably had the same problems. Your advice saved me $500-$600, and I wouldn't have been happy about spending it. Thanks for all of that, and if I have more, I'll be posting.

For that Rainroosty gets applause and kudos. An excellent suggestion that saved the day!

And I'm very grateful for that. Even though I have the money for another computer, I wasn't planning to replace it just yet, so that's money that will stay in the bank.

Well, the problems have started up again.

Two days apart, the computer did the same thing, and both times I was on Facebook. I notified the property manager that I apparently have an electrical problem, and the electrician is supposed to call me. If I don't hear from the electrician by the end of next week, I'll email the property manager about it as a reminder.

This is getting frustrating.
