I currently have a wireless keyboard/mouse that is getting on my nerves. It has been quirky since I installed it on my XP machine and didn't improve when I built my 8.1
A few times now it has completely frozen and unresponsive and caused me to shut down. Reseating the antenna and cable will get it going again.
I'm ready to go back to wires and since the MB has PS2 ports my thought is to utilize those and save the USB ports for something else.
It is a Logitech Wave and I like many of the customizable features. I don't game, but I do edit photos.
It's an old/new, bought when Circuit City went out of business but I just started using it a couple of years ago. I went browsing at the local computer store and was told to check the batteries. I use NiMh.......or so I thought. While the mouse is rechargeable the keyboard had the original batteries fresh dated 10/2008 despite the fact the utility manager indicated good batteries. Duh
Charged a pair of NiMh for the keyboard and will see how it goes.
PS2 is a dead interface in the consumer market. Personally I refuse to use a wireless keyboard or mouse, they never move from my desk so why introduce the battery cost or failure points.

I've been able to find a adequate selection of PS2 keyboards/ mice on the internet. Dead interface? An overstatement. Not widely used? Agreed.
I also agree with your reasoning. I'm not using the keyboard/mouse on different machines, so I have no issue with cords.

The reality is that most new computers don't have PS2 ports anymore. So, in that case, you use USB (which all modern keyboards and mice support).

My new MB actually supports PS2 which is why I'm exploring the option. I feel if the resource is there, use it and save the other resource for something else.

Not at all, Read my post again, then find me a new consumer PC that has PS2 ports, they are more rare than LPT and com ports. And I never said anything about the accessory market. You can still buy IDE hard drives but you won't find a consumer PC that has an interface to use them.

Haswell, Windows 8.1, and PS/2 ports for both, keyboard and mouse.
I must be missing it, I see no mention of PS2 in the description, and as you'll note I said rare, not non existent.
