I have an older desktop with a KA780G (MS=7551) motherboard.
It has a raid 1 and it is throwing errors. I'd like to delete the raid, but I can't find information anywhere that will tell me what happens to the data on the drives if I do. Obviously I want to just delete the raid and reboot to Windows. Whether it will do that is another question.
What I would do (I'm overly cautious with important data). Do a drive clone of the RAID to a single disk, make sure it's bootable and functions, then delete the RAID and see what happens. If it fails you have the clone to fall back on.
What kind of error are you getting? Degraded array, failing drive?
Can't speak for that particular controller / MB combo, but we've had many of those onboard controllers die in the field, and our techs just pull one drive out and disable them.
Worst case you can pull the second drive out, disable the raid, and try to boot from the first drive. If that doesn't work, just re-enable the raid and swap drives (put the unchanged drive in, and pull the other out). The raid controller should mark the raid as broken, and allow you to put the second drive in and rebuild the raid (or just leave it broken while you reload the other drive).
Obvious warnings here about backups, data loss, etc.
RAID 1 is mirroring.
Disks drives are cheap.
I would buy a new one and copy the data to it.
Then, I would muck around with RAID setup.

This. I decided not to take a chance. I'm buying a drive to clone to and use as the new boot drive. If I start screwing around with it I'll mess it up and Mrs. Tek will not be happy.
I misread that before. After reading it again I might try it.
