Now I'm thinking of an iMac vs a Mac Mini? Tho I've got a nice new-ish 20" Dell unused monitor from 12/2011 sitting unused, I could save up more $, & get a 21" iMac. Anyone think this is THAT much better a deal -- or is the Mac Mini enough for daily use like email, surfing web, streaming sports live, movies, youtube, etc.?

Hi & thx for the Mac Mini info. But I just delayed, & now missed a $594 2012 Mac Mini on Amazon

It was there an hr ago & now's gone. I only see Quad-core $794 ones now, new from 2012 & tho they've an i7, isn't that too much to pay for just a good entry level Mac but still, yes, able to be upgradeable vs the 2014 Mac Minis -- BUT w/out the 2012 model's excellent ability to still be upgraded (b/c the new, junkier 2014's are now soldered on).

This has turned into a fruitless, frustrating thing trying to find & decide which best Mac Mini to buy -- & now even WHERE to find any new condition, older 2012 version/model?

Anyone advise here? Thx.

This is weird but I went back to Amazon, & it (the 2012 Mac Mini) was there again for sale -- "as the last one again" -- & it was $594. So I got it asap.

But it has Mavericks OS on it, & I then checked BestBuy's website & saw the same company selling the same last one on Amazon that I got from them now, yet they're also selling one on BestBuy's Marketplace -- for only $584.99 -- but it has Mtn Lion as the OS on that one?

Why does the same 2012 Mac Mini model have 2 different OS listed on them & which is better?

If I remember correctly, 2012 is when a newer Mac Mini became available, and so you're seeing 'early 2012 models vs. mid or late 2012' models.

I'd go with the one which has Mavericks, because it will have tighter security built into the OS. At least that's what I've heard.

I liked Mavericks better than Mountain Lion.

That's why Apple Care is so good! Just call them (or make an appointment ahead of time for them to call you) when you unbox the Mini: they will talk you right through it!

That's what I did when buying the new iMac, as I had my old iMac with all the files, etc. Was on the phone for an hour+ after they helped me use the Migration Assistant. Then they had me check everything to see if it arrived in the new machine successfully.

Apple is so good about not shaming or chiding folks for not being as technically knowledgeable as some others may be.

Ok, here goes a nice one! Just got email from Amazon cancelling my sale.

It is out of stock by the seller Data Vision Video of NY, NY. So, guess I go w/out an older version 2012 brand new Mac Mini, as no one will sell a brand new (since they're too old now from late '12 & all are just used or refurbed, I bet) one again near the $594 price on Amazon.

Too bad I lost it, as it was last one they had I guess.
