I remember only about 5 or 6 years ago looking at desk top computers that didn't have a phone jack because there was no longer a dial up modem installed.

It'll depend on the usb floppy drive. My current MBP sees my Sony floppy drive and so does 8.1 on bootcamp, but 8.1 does read my particular floppy disk, probably due to formatting.
