The free one is not a production version ... yet
How long will it stay free ?
Or ... , do they have something up their sleeves,
where we can consider Win 10 to be nothing more than an update to 7 or 8 ?
Why did they skip *9* ?
I have been too long in this crazy world to believe that there are free things ...
You have one year to upgrade if you already own 7 or 8. It's not free for everyone, or for older OS's.
MS has made it clear that it's a permanent license, with no strings attached.
They did something similar with Win8, allowing very inexpensive upgrades from 7 in the first few months after 8 came out.
10 is actually a full version change (where 7, and 8 were minor version upgrades from XP).

Marketing.
OK, got it, in other words, calculated business decision with a small risk.
Assume 10,000 version sold of 7 or 8.
How many would within a year actually do the *free* upgrade.
Still would like to know, when does the 365 days start ?
The version you can download now is not really a production version, but more or less a beta version ?
Again, only a few will eventually end up with a free, permanent license.
I have downloaded the *free* version, but not installed on any of our units.
I will just have to keep an eye on it and keep downloading as much as I can
each time I *hear* or *read* about Win 10 updates (!) not upgrades (!).
Anybody here have actually installed and tried it Win 10 ?

They haven't released the free retail version yet.
OK, guys. I signed up for Windows Insider program and I have installed Windows 10 Technical Preview on my virtual machine, so I'll give you some quick facts. Start Menu is officially back in the game. The Start Screen from Win 8 is not placed inside the start menu. Now you can place not two, but four windows on your screen and view them simultaneously. Win 10 has a multi-desktop and multi-task features. Basically, that's it. You can barely notice the changes. Win 10 is not what I call major update. Actually, it's more like Win 7 and 8 mixed together. MS might say win 10 is something completely different, but it's not. Just open your eyes and you will see it.
