Do new desktop/laptop computers or printers still have SD memory card slots for photo loading?

If not, you can easily buy a 'reader' to plug into a USB slot for under $10.

If I purchase a card reader, does my computer need software to recognize it or will Windows 'my pictures' automatically recognize the card?

Most card readers are Plug and Play so all you have to do is plug them in and Windows will see it's there. A small message box might pop up asking what to do with the found media, depending on what version of Windows you are using.

Many PC's still come with them. I use mostly Lenovo products and all of mine do. My Toshiba does as well, by some of their models don't have it.

My computer and printer do not have a SD slot. To get photos from my Kodak camera to 'my pictures', I have to connect a usb type cord from camera to usb on computer BUT I must install and use the Kodak program disk. I don't like the program and it keeps photos separate from my photos and transferring photos to my pictures is a PITA.
Thanks for the info. I'll buy a plug n play reader. I see they look like a flash stick where the sd card is inserted in it.

I'm surprised the camera doesn't pop up like a usb drive like most cameras, mp3/video players, cell-fones/tablets, ... do.

The only software you should need is the driver, the rest of the crap they install is unnecessary. For future reference whenever installing something like that I usually go to he manufacturers site, they will usually have a download for the driver only.

When you plug the camera in look in "My computer", it should be listed and you can browse it like any other drive. Kodak is probably going to have some kind of folder structure on there. Just look for the files.
