All my programs are automatic, I don't run them manually unless there is trouble.

I have Malwarebytes running, then there are programs that come with windows, windows security essentials.. etc...

With OS X, I'll run Disk Utility to make sure permissions are all set correctly, usually after an update.

With Windows, I run antivirus, which is always spinning in the background. Process Explorer runs at startup so I can see what is bogging the system, or easily kill/restart processes and apps as they fail. Malwarebytes is installed for any events - maybe twice a year. I'll manually defrag the disk 1-2 times a year as well as I find the automatic process is not always effective. I also keep Spybot S&D around just in case. I use regedit when there's a real mess, but that is usually someone else's computer, not mine.
