Too many 'Cannot display page' notices (Windows XP, work, pc, Microsoft)

We recently changed from Windows XP on an old PC to Windows 8.1 with a new computer. Everything works just fine except we get a lot of "Cannot Display Page" notices when moving from one site to another. What could be causing this? Keep in mind we are not experts at computers. Thanks.
