Thanks! I did try two OCR, one of them says the file is too big and free version of other OCR just converts the 1st page of the book. My book is of 214 pages and of 112MB in size.

Do you know any good OCR's for mac which could convert it? I will keep googling for one. Instead of buying the software, I would go ahead and buy the book otherwise if nothing works for me.

Nevermind I found one OCR converter which is for trial, but I am able to convert it from image PDF to searchable PDF. If it allows me to copy paste text, I will copy it to word and print it.

EDIT: So after converting the entire book, I got a message that trial version will only save first page and that's what the OCR did. So I am still looking for OCR which can allow me to convert the entire book.

Scanners typically come with OCR bundled. Not a Mac user, so don't have a clue what yours would be.

That's a lot of work for a book.

GOCR

At this point, I'd just go to the Library and borrow it.

i would use a linux live-usb and use imagemagick to crop out each half-page into its own picture:
Convert pdf to image with imagemagick from commandline

edit: using the example provided i whipped this up quick-and-dirty but it seems buggy (i'll let the op tweak the sharpness settings to their liking):
