Just randomly take it as an example, if I only use it to store important files, maybe use it less than 5 times per year. How long will the hard drive likely last?

Just some personal files, such as tax return records, copy of passport, etc. Don't trust some free online storage, such as google drive. No privacy on the net, there is also risk that someone hack the account.

I am just looking for a way to better manage my personal files.

Thanks.

Absolutely, positively no way to answer that. Could be 6 months, could be 10 years.
No one lists MTBF anymore...

You should get a dual drive setup for maximum protection, but they are pricey.

Look at the MTBF number if the manufacturer publishes it ... many hide them now. You can look at the AFR (Annual Failure Rate) when comparing drives ... or simply google to see the many comparison tests already done on this topic.
Remember that there are many other factors affecting dd longevity.

This. All the reviews and comparisons in the world mean nothing. I've a drive fail in one day. I've had others last 10 years.

The QNAP is a NAS device, no external hard drive can be used in one, they require the use of 3.5" desktop drives that are installed internally.
