I did the same thing Win 7 to Win 10 (HUGE MISTAKE) back to Win 7. Win 10 takes away a lot of your programs like iTunes, Microsoft Money and it was a total disaster. Fortunately I have data drive D: for all my computers so at least I didn't lose my data. Reinstalling Win 7 was a pain because it downloaded 210 updates and crashed and was reverting when I pulled the plug and reinstalled Win 7 again this time with manual updates.
On a small laptop, I went from 8.1 to 10. It was awful. No media player, and nothing worked right. Went back to 8.1. I will leave my big laptop alone, it has W7.
I had a Windows 8.1 machine I bought back in May. I installed Windows 10 on it. I have nothing but good to say about it. No problems that I can tell. It boots up really fast from when I turn it off sleep, much faster than Windows 8.1. It doesn't have the fuzzy text issue Windows 8.1 had. No compatibility issues.
The best thing though is they have these awesome pictures when you wake your computer from sleep! OMG I love it! I LOVE THAT PART OF IT!
Playing with a NEW laptop at Best Buy with Win 10 - I liked it A LOT! I saw many features in it in a PC that was built for it, but I think it's not good to upgrade PCs for it if they don't have touchscreens...
Otherwise, I think 8.1 Pro is awesome! I hate even using Win 7 Pro compared to 8.1 Pro!

The new start menu is better, things seem to run faster. I really can't say I have any complaints. The annoying things about 8.1, that thing to the side where you had to click to get your apps and such is gone. Basically, unless you suspect compatibility issues with your current setup to Wind 10, I see no reason why not to get windows 10.
So much is done in web apps now, and with Microsoft making Office for Mac, there is no reason for me to dual boot my MacBook to Windows any longer. I keep a little VM of it on my hard drive but I can't remember the last time I used it.
