Highlighting text problem (mouse, screens, reboot, click)

Lately when i try to highlight some text the highlighted text turns back to un-highlighted text when i take my finger off the button on the mouse, before going out and buying a new mouse is this problem to do with the mouse or some other aspect of the computer.?

Well, if you have already rebooted the system and the problem seems to occur in different applications not just in one, then it is likely the mouse (left) button is not remaining in the clicked position.

To see if that was indeed the cause, activate the ClickLock feature if it is offered:

1. Start > Run > main.cpl > OK

2. Check the Click-Lock option at the bottom (See screenshot)

3. Leave settings at default or you could lower them a bit to activate it quicker
