Pretty fed up w/ this piece o crap shockwave flash. It crashes no mater what browser I use, no matter what computer, no matter how many times I uninstall it and reinstall it, no matter where I put the settings. I want it permanently gone, ust like every other adobe product.

It's possibly (surely) OK though, as it keeps me from those creeps at youtube, but there's a lot of Bill Evans music there I'd love to listen to w/o all the aggravation. Eventually I'll re buy the recordings that I foolishly sold, thinking "hey! it's on youtube, so why buy it?" Now I know why to buy it. Thanks.

I can't remember the last time I had any kind of problem, with Flash.
Not on any of my 3 personal systems. Not on any of the 50 systems I support at work.
I don't think Flash is the root of your problem.
Much of YT iusn't even flash anymore.

Does this show check boxes for your browser:

This, after your rant: What is wrong w/ today's computers?, tells me you are not at all up to date or in tune with what your computer is running and have no idea what its needs are.

If you are still running Shockwave, then you haven't upgraded anything on your computer in so long, it's no wonder nothing runs. Adobe has owned Flash for years now. Also, since about 2014, Flash has only been used to build video games for mobile devices.

Seriously. You are better off buying a new computer. Get someone to backup all of your files that you want to save onto an external hard drive, and kiss that old box goodbye.

Hell, I still call it Shockwave Flash.. Just habit.

I still call about everything from Symantec "Norton" as well. Old habits die hard.

Flash does suck. I'll notice alot of unresponsive scripts in Firefox due to it.. Firefox will win up using a Gig of memory because of it.. But.. I do think it's on its last legs. as Peregrine noted.. Bigger sites have moved away from it, and I expect more to.
