First trying to understand difference between unicast and broadcast and when it would be used.
For instance destination mac address for a dhcp discover would be broadcast i assume? Discover is when your client doesent know the address of dhcp?
Would this be the same for destination IP address? Are these the same for requests instead of discover?
Unicast is a communication directly to a specific device. Broadcast is a communication to all devices on the subnet.
DHCPDISCOVER is a broadcast request, to which only the subnet's DHCP server should respond. The server will select an IP address and reply with a DHCPOFFER, to offer that address to the client. DHCPOFFER is unicast.
