Have had Micro-10 for 7 months now, no problems until today on laptop. It's locked up saying I need password to continue. I have no Microsoft account or password. Nothing works, it just stares at me.
Looking on my other computer with Windows 7, on google, several sites many users are complaining about the same problem but no one seems to have the answer except take it to a tech shop.
Any ideas.

We never had a password for Microsoft, that's the problem.

Have you tried using Windows 7 on your Surface? One of the best features of Windows 10 over 7 is touch interactions.
