I have both. Definitely PC when I'm home, laptop comes in really handy even at home. I was using it to install and troubleshoot new modem recently.

Do you have HDMI port on yours? You can use full size monitor, key board and mouse with a laptop. I had a PC crap out on me recently so I just used the laptop temporarily. I just set the laptop to only display on the monitor when plugged in, you only need a HDMI cable so it's not like it's a huge issue. Mouse and keyboard is wireless, just a matter plugging in the USB receiver.

The only time I ever leave the desk is on a trip (once or twice a year), or to print something (printer is across the room). I've been thinking of going back to a desktop because I don't use the laptop like a laptop.
I would never get one just for the house. I spend a lot of time keeping an eye on my elderly Grandmother when I can. It's actually why I bought the laptop. I pay for some crappy DSL at her house, good enough to log into my Comcast account. HDMI cord to full size TV and abracadabra instant cable TV.

It was also very useful during jury duty, if you ever have jury duty you'll find it was worth every penny.

I like my desktop.

If I had a laptop again, I'd haul it outside with me in the nice weather, and I need a computer break once in a while.

LOL
That's why they have lids. Just close it when you need a break.

Overall, I prefer a desktop. Desktops tend to last longer than the typical laptops. I have a laptop as well and use it more for casual surfing or when I travel.

I like both equally. Though sitting at a desk for long periods is bad for your back.

I thought the mobility of a laptop would allow me to do more work, esp in one sitting as stationary positions are a bit "stiffening" for me. But, when I got my laptop originally, I did try to take it around but ended up just setting it at my computer station.
My cell phone, feet up, on the recliner, deleting emails! who wants to sit at a desk for that? So now that we can do so much on cell phones, I would prefer a desktop. I got a laptop with a 17" monitor and I'm still straining my eyes.

But I like just having one component.
I haven't had a desk top since they required a whole desk or computer table. Huge.

i prefer my laptop when surfing the web from my couch.. i like my desktop when i am at my desk it has more power and is faster then my laptop. plus a desktop is easier to upgrade in most cases unless you get an all in one then your limited even some premade POS are limited to upgrades. the best bet is to build your own pc!!! if you can play with legos then you can build a pc!!!
