Are you sure there isn't something else interfering? A 970 SHOULD be able to tear through anything out there today. That is still a very high end card and frankly I'd be ticked off if my 970 wasn't performing today. That was a $500 card ($600??) when it was introduced 2 years ago. I know 2 years is a long time in tech, but a premium video card only 2 years old should still be pretty awesome.

Another option: if you have Windows 10, you can actually match up unlike cards in SLI. In other words, you could potentially use your 970 *and* your 1080 in the same system. I think it's pretty new and only works in a few games so far though.
