Is there any software that will allow me to have a webcam connected to my computer that I can view remotely from my cell phone? I don't need any recordings, just something I can check in on from time to time.

I've never used them but I've heard of IP Webcam and My Webcam Broadcaster. I'm sure there are tons more ... just google.

Thanks. I ended up using Google Remote Desktop and it works perfectly. Just install the app on your phone, install an extension on the Chrome browser, and you have full control over your home PC (including webcam). Best of all it's free.

Eventually I want to get the Nest outdoor camera. At last check the release date was the end of September.

You can also get things like the DLink cameras.. I have a 5020.. Don't remember the full model.. But, it's wireless, can be accessed through an app on your phone.. Set to record and email images based on sound or motion detection.

Your setup is fine.. Other than the fact that if you're using it for security.. Doesn't do much good if you're not watching it when someone breaks in and takes the computer.

I have a Flir FX camera that works pretty well. It can be triggered based on sound/motion and I believe also changes in humidity and temperature (though I haven't tried that).

Technically it works because I can set the camera to take photos at pre-determined intervals (every 10, 20 seconds, whatever) and automatically have them saved to my Google Drive account. But obviously there are better solutions that I'm looking into. This is just temporary for now.

Starts at $30 and they have a trial version. It does record even though you don't need it and runs a web server. It also has clients for Android and Apple. It works with many types of cameras.
