A lot of people do not like the Microsoft ecosystem. Fact is, the ecosystem itself, I am okay with. I swear by OneDrive, and I am a fan of Groove Music and Microsoft's productivity suite. I even like the UWP apps that people b* about. I have other issues with Microsoft, particularly in the case of Windows Phone, which is an entirely different TL;DR I am not going to bore anyone with.

I still stand by my initial assertion. Unless you're using the enterprise version where you can turn off automatic updates and have granular control of what Windows 10 does I would not recommend using it in a situation where you may have to rely on it, and the OS is busy doing other things and you have to wait for those updates to install before you can use it.

The experience that developers and systems administrators have with Windows 10 is entirely different than the experience that people at home have with it. Everything I've said, has been responded to by posters that are using Windows 10 in a different capacity than the average home user, people that post on C-D looking for advice. Of course Windows 10 is fine for you. I use Windows 10 everyday and I don't have any issues with it, because I understand why it is doing what it does, and why the user interface is what it is. But there is a learning curve. That's where I get the idea that someone who isn't as technically inclined should leave Windows 10 alone, unless they're willing to pay the money to license it properly to open up the control set that professionals have with it. But plain vanilla, idiot proof version of Windows 10 that was given away for free up until July, no. But that's just me.

^ consider the alternatives. Linux, with its learning curve? IOS, with its expense and software limitations?

Fact is that unless you're a professional developer with access to various SDK, you're limited to what you can buy off the shelf, critical app or not.

I can't argue against that.

Well, during the last week, my updates behave differently, even though I changed nothing. Now I get a message on my screen saying that the computer will restart "soon", and gives me a choice of what to do -- e.g., restart now or postpone.
