system restore
Should system restore be off or on when using the computer? I went to update my media player and it said that the system restore was off. I turned it on a updated windows player. Should this remain on or off?
Thanks

I would suggest you keep system restore toggled on. The only time I can see having this turned off is when you have a serious infection from various malware, spyware, trojan, or virus that is residing in your stored files. Usually once the cleaning process is finished it it turned back on and a back up is done immediately.

I usually have it off. It's an "up to the person" thing. If you preform regular backups, then it really won't matter. If you don't and something happens, then well, that's a problem to restore needed operating system files. I don't use it to have my extra resources, if something happens, I just ghost and start back up from where I left off.

Either leave it on or leave it off, toggling it on and off does absolutely nothing for you because every time you turn it off it deletes the previous restore point that were created, so when you turn it back on you may not have a restore point to use if it crashes an hour later.

Us advanced users either a) back up all our data already. or b) don't really care if I spend half a day putting all my settings back.
Its up to the user. System restore can be great for fixing after a software crash. However, if you maintain your anti-virus and firewall, it is much less likely you will have a software crash that forces you to use your system restore.
The only windows Re-install I've done on my PCs in the last two years was either to a) change Operating Systems, or b) I replaced a motherboard or Hard drive or some such.
