4 years for my past 2 laptops (Dell & an Asus). I'm hoping to keep using my current laptop (2015 MacBook Pro) for 5-6 years though. Of course I say that now . . .

My PC is around 3 years old; and if I feel so inclined will swapout any redundant or out-dated hardware components.

My laptop is about a year old; the previous one I dropped and broke the screen. But generally I only replace laptops when it has died rather through age.

Laptop usually every 2 years, desktop 3-4 or so. I still do some gaming so basically whenever it stops running AAA games well on high settings I start thinking about upgrading. Current desktop is running a GTX 970 so it's on the weaker side for VR if/when I pick up a Vive but with some overclocking will probably work fine.

About every 2-3 years. I buy cheap laptops because I don't do anything special with them. I don't often pass things on since I wouldn't be replacing it if it didn't need some serious fixing.

970 will lag a bit and tear. I tested it on some games. vs 980 its like night and day.. Really suggest 1070.

I still have my 1993 FastData computer. It's like George Washington's axe. In the same way that George's axe has had 2 heads and 3 handles since he owned it, I still have the same computer, even though every part has been replaced at least twice.

If you do not understand the reference to George Washington's axe, see this article:
