My PC has DDR3 RAM and its 2gb per stick and its maxed out now with all 4 slots used . Can I buy 1 4gb stick and use it with 3 other 2gb sticks?

Why would you want to? Going from 8GB to 10GB will offer little to no noticeable gains. Spend the money on an SSD.

You need to look at your Motherboard's Owners Manual to find this out.

MBs in the past (5+ years or so), had to have the memory slots used in pairs, IE: they didn't have 4 slots, they had two pair slots, and each pair have to have the same memory amount. Between the pairs could be different.)
I've seen more modern MBs that don't have this limitation so I'd guess the limitation would now be rare.

The only way to be sure would be to find your exact make and model and check it's Manual.
You should be able to find the exact model's OM from the manufacturer's website.

With the complete lack of info you gave us on your hardware, the answer would be, maybe, maybe not.

So you want to give up your dual channel memory performance capability?

He's totally right, Tar. That's a complete waste of money. 10 is no better then 8. What do you do with your PC? Why do you think you need more RAM?

Maybe. You should be able to but sometimes mobos get squirrel. You might end up having to pull one of the 2 gb sticks and still end up with 8gb.

If you don't know the answer to this question yourself, you probably don't do enough with your PC where more than 8 gigs will be needed anyways, or be worth the cost given the likely age or specs of your PC based on the lack of information given, so there you are.

tell us the MB model # and someone can tell you for sure. As another poster said, you'll give up dual-channel with one stick changed out.
