Just buy a refurbished iMac, or maybe a secondhand 2014-15 iMac. The screen should be around 21" to maybe 27" depending on the model. Newegg has older refurbished iMac's.

The very best place to buy a refurb Mac is from Apple so that you get free help with problems and full warranty just like new. Every refurb Mac I've bought from Apple (10 so far counting my boys computers) has been bullet proof better than new 'cause refurb all get 110% bench tested where new Macs don't (random testing).

You are correct. I only buy refurbished Macs from the Apple store. But the refurbished Macs at Apple are newer models that cost a lot more than 2013-2015 Macs.

That said, I see some 2015 iMacs at the Apple store that cost under $1,000. Shipment is free, of course, so that may help a little:
