There really is no way to delete them forever, so they cannot be recovered. Even if you delete something is is still recoverable. You can shred your hard drive, but the E-mails are still in the memory and back ups of whatever system you use to receive and store them. I might be possible if you have an account on your own server system and you shred all of those hard drives as well. I am not sure about that. I would ask, but I doubt you have your own personal server system for an E-mail account, so I will no bother. Then of course whomever you sent the E-mail to will also have a copy.

Fact of the modern world - no more secrecy. If the government wants information about you badly enough, they are probably going to get it.
