If you do get a cert, just get it done to get the job and move on. If it expires, so what.. you got in and show that you can do it. My A+ i got grandfather in but i work with other techs and their A+ expired like 5 years ago.. its pointless to keep paying for a cert that nothing changes..

But it does get you the interview, but not the job. only you can do that.

According to our IT director they are critical. My son just switched to information systems as a major. I asked her about that and she said it is very broad. He needs to get as many certifications as he can, especially in Security.

She mostly learned computer skills OTJ while working in accouting. Then she got every certification she could and it opened a lot of door for her in the IT world. She started at our company as a junior IT tech and was hired entirely because of the certifications she had. She is now a VP and head of IT for a billion plus dollar company. It took a few years (nearly two decades)
