I've had Windows 7 for years. I used to manually load the malicious software removal tool every month, second Tuesday. Starting today, I can't find it. Did they stop making it for Windows 7??

When I search for it I get an error messaging saying it couldn't be found.

What's the name of the malicious software removal tool? Or you meant the built-in Win7 software?
You are right, the download page now shows error.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/erro...marterror.aspx

Use something else instead - Malwarebytes and Bitdefender are free and working fine. Always use at least 2 software. Run the scan at least twice too...

OR try to download if from here:
http://microsoft-malicious-software-...l.en.lo4d.com/

I am at work now, so I can't say if the download is working or not. Hope it does.

Looks like Microsoft took down the page and/or changed it without updating any of the links. Of course it's patch Tuesday so it may just be down temporarily while they upload the new MSRT. Check tomorrow. If you're doing it manually, probably better to do it the second Wednesday anyway so you can be sure you're running the most recent MSRT and not the one from last month.

It appeared the next day and I downloaded it.

When I run this, it says "Files Infected: 3" towards the beginning. (A quick scan takes 10 minutes.) But at the end it says it "found no infected files." That does not make sense.

I ran it again and exactly the same thing happened, which means it didn't remove whatever it found.

I ran the FULL scan (which took six hours) and it said "Files Infected:519" and it got through 90% of my files and then froze at a really small file called Dummy. I stopped the task.

I download a new version every week.

Make sure you select the proper operating-system or you will get an error-message.
