TP Link has held the title for the best bang for the buck router (Archer C7) for a couple years now. I installed one in my folks home a few years back and have needed to do ZERO remote support. I check on it/update it when I'm local though.
C7 here as well. Has been the most reliable and long-lasting of all the routers I've owned. And I've been through a bunch of them over the years. I also have their switches and extenders. No problem with any of them.

No, but they price and engineer accordingly. I now buy whatever is cheapest and equivalent if I need unmanaged switches or WAPs. I’m not a typical user though as I run my own Untangle dual WAN router.
